Research Interests
After obtaining his PhD in Acoustics at Pennsylvania State University, Dr Kim became a research fellow and assistant research scientist in the Biomedical Ultrasound Laboratory of the University of Michigan. In 2008, Dr. Kim moved to Pittsburgh to initiate research in ultrasound-based multi-modality imaging approach.
His current major research interests include Thermal Strain Imaging (TSI) for lipid detection and quantification, Ultrasound Elasticity Imaging (UEI) and Shear Wave Imaging (SWI) for tissue mechanical property characterization, and Photoacoustic Molecular Imaging (PMI) for detection of disease specific biomarkers. Clinical applications include cardiac and cardiovascular diseases, inflammatory bowel diseases, and cancers. The imaging techniques are also applied in monitoring engineered tissue constructs.
