Photoacoustics

With expertise in physical acoustics, Kang Kim, PhD applies the principles of photoacoustics to develop unique methods for tissue characterization. He uses non-invasive, non-linear Ultrasound Elasticity Imaging to detect subtle changes in arterial elasticity with in vivo strain imaging and Pulse Wave Velocity (PWV) with a commercial ultrasound probe. Furthermore, Dr. Kim’s team uses ultrasound induced Thermal Strain Imaging for differentiating fatty and water-based tissues, and photoacoustic molecular imaging using bioconjugated gold nanoparticles for imaging vascular inflammation.
